FOCUS ON…

E-TECH OR THE ABILITY TO DRIVE ELECTRIC

E-TECH is the new commercial name for Renault's electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid vehicles. E-TECH thus brings together all models able to offer an electric driving experience and the associated pleasure.

This new name is available in three versions, depending on the level of electric driving:

  • E-TECH Electric for 100% electric vehicles
  • E-TECH Plug-in Hybrid for rechargeable hybrid vehicles
  • E-TECH Hybrid for hybrid vehicles.

As a result, alongside models such as Clio E-TECH Hybrid and Captur E-TECH Plug-in Hybrid, the ZOE E-TECH Electric and Twingo E-TECH Electric now feature in the range.

For the occasion, the E-TECH logo has been transformed. Its E for "Electric" plays with our diamond logo to be immediately recognisable as a Renault brand motorization. It was first used last year on the Mégane eVision show car and can also be seen on the motor cover of the A521 racing in Formula 1.

DID YOU KNOW?

RENAULT'S HYBRID TECHNOLOGY HAS SEVERAL ORIGINS

Renault has arrived on the hybrid market with its innovative and modular E-TECH hybrid and E-TECH plug-in hybrid technology, supported by more than 10 years' experience in 100% electric vehicles, in order to give its customers access to the electric experience.

If Renault's hybrid technology is revolutionary, it is above all thanks to its innovative dog clutch gearbox, without clutches or synchronizers.

When we know that Louis Renault patented the direct drive gearbox at the end of the 19th century (more efficient, less cumbersome, less noisy and above all more effective than the chain and belt transmission systems of that time), at the origin of the Renault Frères company, it is a nice tribute from our engineering to its origins.

This dog clutch gearbox doesn't come from just anywhere: since 2014, Formula 1 has imposed new V6 hybrid engines. Renault F1's engineering teams brought their experience to develop what would become the architecture of our city version hybrids, with a gearbox that is much smoother in its shifts than its track version, thanks to the contribution of an additional electric motor.

In 2014, the EOLAB concept car was already equipped with a hybrid powertrain based on the revolutionary E-TECH system. It gave the signal for its future realization on production vehicles.

In 2021, Renault will offer six variations of its hybrid technology on Clio, Captur, Arkana, Mégane and Mégane Estate.

ARKANA ELECTED BEST SUV 2021 BY AUTO-MOTO.COM

New Renault Arkana, the first SUV coupe from a mainstream car manufacturer, is breaking new ground with its unique concept, which is totally hybrid, including its engines. Presented at the beginning of March during the first press test-drives in France, Spain, Italy and Germany, Arkana is already attracting a lot of interest and has won the Auto-Moto award for "Best SUV 2021".

This award comes just after its launch in Europe but complements two other prizes awarded in the same month, this time in South Korea, where the XM3 was voted "Small SUV of the Year" and also won the "Design of the Year" award. Arkana, the first building block in Renault's C-segment offensive, is set to conquer all markets.
