Pouget in a league of his own at Magny-Cours

In cooler conditions than the previous day following overnight thunderstorms, the twenty-seven-car field began qualifying in a light drizzle on Sunday morning. David Pouget, who had been dominant since the first on-track action on Friday, remained the man to beat as he wrested the pole position from teammate Alexandre Finkelstein on his final attempt. Nicolas Milan and Jérémy Bordagaray shared row two ahead of Spanish twin brothers Alejandro and Adrian Schimpf (AST Competition). 

David Pouget made an excellent start and kept the lead, while Samuel Chaligne (T2CM) got loose, and Raphaël Cuadrado (GM Sport) had nowhere to go. Meanwhile, after several contacts, Laurent Dziadus (Team Lucas) and Guillaume Maio (GM Sport) retired early. 

David Pouget quickly opened up a small lead thanks to the intense battle between Alexandre Finkelstein and Nicolas Milan. This duel also favoured Jérémy Bordagaray, who got in between the two drivers on lap two before Nicolas Milan replied on the following lap. Simultaneously, the battles were animated, with the numerous overtaking moves of Aurélien Renet (JSB Compétition) and Alexandre Albouy (GPA Racing). Eleventh at the start, the former cleared several competitors to move up into the top five while his compatriot climbed up from the back of the grid. 

David Pouget increased his advantage as the race unfolded, while the battle between Alexandre Finkelstein and Nicolas Milan intensified. The latter found an opening on lap seven before chasing down David Pouget, but the 15-time Clio Cup champion could only partially reduce his deficit.

David Pouget controlled his pace perfectly to complete his clean sheet at Magny-Cours and double his lead over Nicolas Milan at the top of the Clio Cup Series. Challenger Alexandre Finkelstein completed the podium ahead of Jérémy Bordagaray, winner in the Racer category. As in race one, Aurélien Renet was fifth, followed by Adrian Schimpf and Mathieu Lannepoudenx (Milan Compétition). From 26th on the grid, Alexandre Albouy (GPA Racing) sliced his way through the field to finish in eighth place, while Florian Venturi (GM Sport) and Florian Coruble (GM Sport) rounded out the top ten.

CLIO CUP ESPAÑA

As he did on Saturday, Racer Jeremy Bordagaray won in Clio Cup España ahead of Challengers Adrian Schimpf and Mathieu Lannepoudenx and is the new leader in the general classification. Fourth overall, Alejandro Schimpf completed the Challengers Cup podium, which, thanks to his victory, is still led by Adrian Schimpf. Lastly, Jérémy Bordagaray won again in the Racers Cup, in dominating form ahead of Sergio Casalins (Motorismo Racing Team) and Joaquin Rodrigo (Team VRT).

CLIO CUP FRANCE

David Pouget also doubled up in Clio Cup France to close to within 15 points of Nicolas Milan, second today. Third, Alexandre Finkelstein continued his undefeated run in the Challengers Cup with a fourth consecutive victory this season ahead of Aurélien Renet and Florian Venturi. Fourth overall, Jérémy Bordagaray also doubled his tally in the Racers Cup with his third win of the year ahead of Fabien Julia (LR Performance) and Cédric Delcroix (GPA Racing).

The Clio Cup Series next heads to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for what promises to be an exceptional meeting that will feature Clio Cup Europe, Clio Cup France, Clio Cup Italia and Clio Cup Mid-Europe. More than 60 drivers are set to enter round four of the season.
