The Clio Ice Trophy returns in 2023

Building on its success in attracting young drivers who want to get into motorsport and more experienced drivers from all horizons, the Clio Ice Trophy will return this winter for a new season that promises to be even more intense and more spectacular!

02 November 2022

Thanks to the reliability, versatility and proven performance of the fifth generation of Clio racing cars, the Clio Ice Trophy was enthusiastically welcomed by drivers looking for cost-effective competition at a time of year when there is generally little activity.

The inaugural edition of the Clio Ice Trophy saw Romain Di-Fante crowned in a field of Clio Rally5s and Clio RXs that were technically equal thanks to conversion kits designed by the Alpine Dieppe Jean Rédélé Manufacture. The title-winner battled many fellow rally drivers in addition to rallycross and circuit competitors, who signed up to keep their driving skills sharp in the stunning setting offered by the Principality of Andorra.

The second Clio Ice Trophy campaign will retain the main ingredients that made it a success. Still organised as a support series of the GSeries, a proven ice racing reference in Europe, the trophy will be contested over four rounds on as many different configurations of the Circuit Pas de la Casa.

Among the new features, sole tyre supplier Michelin will provide new studded rubber. The new tyres, which now include 220 studs at the front and 128 at the rear, promise to make the cars even more lively and provide a better show whilst also levelling the playing field. A maximum of six tyres will be allowed for the season, and two drivers can share a Clio to keep costs down.

At each event on the world's highest altitude permanent circuit, competitors will take on free practice, timed sessions and then the finals on the same day. A specific Clio Ice Trophy classification will be established at each round, accumulating the points awarded at the end of the timed sessions (15-13-11-9-7-5-4-3-2-1) and the finals (25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1).

As with every Alpine Racing trophy, the Viry-Châtillon competition-customer department and the promoter - Circuit Andorra - will provide a privileged framework ensuring both sporting and technical fairness, not to mention an enticing bonus and prize scheme. The top five finishers in each round will win cash and spare-parts vouchers, while the end-of-season winner will receive a full-season entry in one of the Clio Trophy rallies or three Clio Cup Series events. The second and third-place finishers will also be awarded.
